Shape grammars

Since the parametric approach taken in generating genetic cups is rather limiting in a certain sense, shape grammars have been investigated as an alternative possible approach.

Shape grammars provide a way to define how things can be shaped (e.g. tableware but also architecture), in the same sense as a language grammar defines how sentences can be shaped. Like with formal language grammars (e.g. Backus-Naur form (BNF), shape grammars are defined in terms of rules built from basic shape definitions as well as other rules.
